Field Ecology Surveys
Environmental studies for the proposed wind farm continue to be completed each season. These studies are informing the project’s environmental assessments, including strategies to protect precious species, and natural features such as native grass cover on ridgelines.
Last summer the ecology team went out on site and saw the vulnerable Brown Treecreeper but didn’t see any Blue-winged Parrots or Southern White-face, possible due to generally decreased bird activity in the higher temperatures. The team will soon head out to undertake winter surveys. If you have seen any interesting birds, reach out!
VicGrid’s Renewable Energy Zones
In November last year VicGrid published the draft Western Renewable Energy Zone, which confirmed that the Navarre Green Power Hub is situated within the Western Renewable Energy Zone (REZ). This highlights the suitability of our site for a wind farm, reflected in the State’s approach to coordinating renewable energy development. VicGrid also published its draft Victorian Access Regime which is the set of rules for how renewable energy projects can connect into a REZ. More information is here https://engage.vic.gov.au/victorian-access-regime
